When Calls the Heart Season 3 Plot

This season was basically just an extension of Elizabeth and Jack’s courtship. Rosemary and Lee even made it to the alter before them. Abigail gained a family. There’s a good storyline of new families in a camp settlement near town, which was relegated to the back half of the season.

Episode 1, Troubled Hearts: 45.5

Okay, so Erin Krakow isn’t Meryl Streep, but she isn’t Shannon Elizabeth either. It doesn’t take much to make her look good, just some solid directing. Somehow, these directors are now turning her into a soap star in a show that isn’t meant to be a soap. They make her contort her face and give some very awkward performances.

Episode 2, A Time to Speak: 50.5

I know Abigail is strong, but there are other ways to show it than to constantly put lying suitors in her path. I understand Pastor Frank and I empathize with him, which is why I don’t like the way the full revelation of his past was written. Instead of a tale of redemption, we get another tale of heartbreak from Abigail.

Episode 6, Heartbreak: 53.5

Again with throwing Abigail under the bus! I don’t care that Cody and Becky’s long lost aunt is a blood relative. Does she not understand that while she has a legal claim to them, she’s a complete stranger? And yes, my wording makes it sound like they’re property, but that is exactly how the aunt treats them.

Episode 8, Prayers from the Heart: 56

I somehow remember there being more overarching storylines across entire seasons, but there’s not much continuity in this season either. This flood is a solid plot point, but it may have been beneficial to move it up in the storyline to show more of the aftermath. Also, it would’ve been good to feature the camp families earlier in the season.

When Calls the Heart Season 3 Rating

When Calls the Heart season 3 isn’t a vast improvement from season 2, but it’s better. I feel like I’m just repeating myself, but there’s really not much else to say about this season. It’s just so…blah.

Where Did It Leave Off?

Season 9 gave fans a happily ever after for Lucas (McNally), who proposed to Elizabeth (Krakow) after pursuing her for years. Lee ( Kavan Smith) and Rosemary ( Pascale Hutton ), for their part, find themselves preparing to become parents. While Lee was seen running into the burning saloon in the finale, he made it out safely.

When Was It Renewed?

The network revealed at the time that Lindsay Sturman will take over as the new showrunner. “Celebrating the great S10 news from Italy! We’re thrilled!!!” Krakow wrote via Instagram at the time, sharing a photo with costars McGarry, Kayla Wallace and Ben Rosenbaum in Venice.
